I’ve been chewing over Psalm 62:1-2 these past two days.
This a beautiful song from King David, which kicks off by sharing all that God longs to be for us, in our times of shaking. Here’s how David puts it…
“Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
This is David being passionately decisive – emphatically convicted – about the reasons he turns TO God, and not AWAY from God in the tough times.
- God offers true rest for the soul – other translations speak about ‘my soul waits in silence and expectation for Him’.
- God alone can truly save us – the Hebrew word for salvation here is YESHUA (the God who rescues us).
- God is our rock – He’s not falling apart and he’s not going anyway. You can stand firm in Him, and on His promises.
- God is our fortress (other translations say ‘refuge’) – He’s surrounding you with His love, comfort and peace.
Whatever you’re facing right now, let me invite you to take a moment to be still, and let’s turn that Psalm into a prayer for this week.
Lord Jesus, I choose to enter into your rest for my soul.
Rescue me from all my fears and anxieties.
Strengthen me with your loving power.
Comfort me with your compassionate presence.
With you in my life, and by my side, I will not fall.
Amen
Let’s refuse to isolate ourselves, but instead, commit to coming together as God’s family and friends.
