King David was Israel’s most beloved King, with a passionate God-centered heart. And yet even David knew that he regularly needed to allow God to conduct some heart monitoring – and inevitably, some heart surgery.
In Psalm 26:2, David writes, “Test me, LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind”
In Psalm 139:23, he writes again, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
Across 1,500 years of biblical writing about the heart, we’re reminded of a multitude of heart conditions that create barriers for God’s life and peace to flow to us, and through us.
Let me share just 10 heart conditions that scriptures draw our attention to. Might these be true of you or me today?
- Fearful heart
- Deceived heart
- Broken heart
- Despairing heart
- Bitter heart
- Aching heart
- Proud heart
- Faltering heart
- Disturbed heart
- Hard heart
These heart conditions can be the result of experiences we’ve had, choices we’ve made, or lies we’ve believed. We’re all walking wounded if we’re humble enough to admit it.
What’s so amazing about Jesus, is that God doesn’t come to us today to condemn us, but to save us.
If you feel like you’re battling with any of these heart conditions today, then why not reach out to God with this simple prayer. Pray it slow. Thoughtfully. Honestly. And let His love bring the healing and refreshing we all need.
Father God, heal my heart today, Amen
Let’s continue to journey with God throughout this year as He shifts our hearts closer to His love.
As I close, just a reminder that we all have the opportunity to help Paul and Elaine Little as they serve as Zeo Pastors in Leona jungle, Mexico. They desperately need a car in order to get around to serve their community. Ask Jesus if, and what, you should give, and then click HERE to give it. Thank you!
