Last Sunday, the Church At Home I attended enjoyed a powerful time of listening to God, as we sought to grow in our ability to hear and respond to God’s voice.
The theme was prophecy – the supernatural gift of God specifically speaking to us regarding a past, present or future situation. Watch the inspiring 15-minutes teaching from Pete Greig.
It’s incredible – wonderful – to think that God actually wants to speak to us – to YOU! Both for you and for others.
But understandably, we can often resist taking the risk. Why? What if we heard it wrong? What if it’s not God and just our own thoughts?
My good friend Martin Scott, who regularly operates in the Prophetic function, always reminds me of these two important secrets to stepping out in the prophetic…
Firstly, the goal is NOT to ‘get it right’. If we make ‘getting it right’ our goal then we’ll never take the risk. The liberating truth is that we’ll never have perfect prophetic insight, which is why it’s always helpful and humble to use words like, “I sense God might be saying this… “.
Secondly, you’ll never go far wrong if you LOVE people. If your motive is love. then the least that will happen is people will feel loved and valued by what you say – even if it was more you, than God (although you’ll probably be surprised by how often God IS speaking through you).
That’s why the Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 14:3 that “…one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.”
If we sense that what God is sharing with us – for someone else – will strengthen, encourage and/or comfort them -then what do we have to lose? We all need our faith and lives strengthened, encouraged, and comforted!
I’m praying that the prophetic atmosphere in Zeo will grow as we take more risks in listening to what God is saying, and being willing to share it where needed. And not just in our church gathering moments, but also in places where people don’t know Jesus.
Ready for the challenge?
I look forward to hearing from you as you take some risks with Jesus.
Massive blessings
