Last Sunday we had a fantastic Father’s Day special, and it was great to hear Father’s Day reflections from three of our young people – Ezinna, Lizzy, and Theo.
Watch it on our Youtube Channel.
As they prompted us to think about how God is the best Dad, I’m reminded of thse words penned by Jesus’ step-brother James in James chapter 1 verse 17…
“Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”
James is reminding us that – just as the sun and stars are always shining (whether there are clouds in the sky OR its the darkest of nights) – God’s goodness is always shining. Jesus IS the light of the world and the light of His love will never stop shining on us.
Sometimes we may have experiences where it feels God is distant or disconnected, but the reality couldn’t be more different. We are never in the shadows hidden from Him, and the longing of His heart is always to pour more of His goodness in to our lives.
Sometimes that goodness is strength or peace to face the day.
Sometimes that goodness comes through the kinds words of a friend.
Sometimes that goodness is revealed in an answered prayer.
Sometimes that goodness is experienced through simply enjoying the beauty of the world that He has created.
God’s goodness is all around us, if we simply have eyes to see beyond the clouds and darkness that surrounds us at times.
I remember some years back when I was going through a very difficult personal time. A good friend and spiritual adviser encouraged me to “look for the little divine miracles in every day” – those little nudges that remind us that God in His compassionate goodness was present and at work. I did. I looked. And I saw that God’s love and life was shining brightly even in the darkest of my days – He simply can do nothing less. He never changes.
I pray you will experience the light of His unchanging goodness today. Look for the little miracles. Seek and you shall find.
Thinking of you. Praying for you. Big love
